|THE ISLESFORD CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH NEEDS YOUR HELP.|
This 112 year old institution is facing financial challenges. The congregation is dwindling and the need for repairs to the structure is increasing. Can you help with a monetary contribution to aid the restoration of the church?
Walking up Church Hill...
For well over a century the Church has served the community as a house of worship with Sunday services, Sunday school classes for children as well as hosting numerous weddings and funerals. The church has provided a venue for concerts and school plays. It has provided meeting space for such various groups as AA & Alanon and Yoga Classes. In many ways the church functions as a community center.
The church has invited ministers from many denominations to be guest ministers during the summers. In previous decades the church has sponsored youth programs open to all island children and visitors. Presently the Maine Sea Coast Mission is aiding the church in recruiting ministers from many denominations to be guest ministers through out the year.
The summer santuary
The church is an architecturally significant building on Islesford and needs to be preserved. Its steeple is often the first thing one views when entering the Islesford harbor. Its stained glass windows are significant as is its Fisk Pipe organ, a gift of Mr. & Mrs William Herzel.
The winter chapel
The Church has made significant monetary contributions through out the decades to local and international charities. Previously, a significant part of the Church's revenue came from the Islesford Church Fair. Unfortunately the church is now in the position of finding it necessary to dip into its endowment fund to make the necessary repairs.
The famous front window.
Contributions, which are tax deductible, can be made out to the Islesford Congregational Church -PO Box 111-Islesford, ME 04646. You can note 'restoration project' in the memo.
